Phlebotomy Certification in Nevada

As a resident of Nevada, there are many careers that you can pursue after high school. However, if you are particularly interested and intrigued by the medical field and all that it has to offer, you may want to consider becoming a phlebotomist. If this sounds interesting and you are a resident of the sunny state of Nevada, here are a few things that you must be aware of before you start applying for phlebotomy certification.

The Process of Phlebotomy Certification in Nevada

The Nevada State Health Division recognizes phlebotomists as lab assistants or office lab assistants. The lab assistants are defined as phlebotomists who work in a licensed lab while office lab assistants are those who work in a doctor’s office. Both lab assistants and office assistants must complete lab certification training while the minimum requirement for office lab assistant certification is working experience in a licensed laboratory.
To be eligible for the phlebotomy program in Nevada, you must be a legal resident of the United States who is 18 years old at the least. You will also need to have a high school degree or its equivalent (GED). Once you have completed your classroom education, you will also need to intern for a few hours at a professional facility before you take the certification exam. If you would like to take your phlebotomy skills a little further, you can gain clinical experience at a donor blood bank where you can be the position of a Donor Phlebotomy Technician or DBT.

Certification and Training in Nevada

If you have the prerequisite requirements for the phlebotomy certification in Nevada, you can apply for admission at any of the state’s certified schools. However, no matter which institute you decide to opt for, you will always be required to take three courses that must consist of six total credits. The courses included in the program are the lecture and laboratory and clinical practicum. Once you have successfully completed these courses, you will be eligible to take the national certification exam.

Even though obtaining phlebotomy education is entirely possible online, you should know that hospitals do not recognize online classes as accredited and approved programs. However, if working in a hospital is not your main objective, online education and training maybe a good option for you.

If you are wondering about costs, the application for certification will cost $125 while the Nevada Licensure will be around $60. As for the tuition fee, this will vary from school to school, but you must make sure that you only opt for one that is certified and authentic.
